Lanarkshire United U15 Girls 4: Hibs U15 Girls 2

played at Auchenheath, Lanarkshire on Saturday 29th April 2006 .

A bright and pleasant morning saw Hibs take on top of the table Lanarkshire United. Hibs were quickly on the attack and a good shot from Emma was well saved by the United keeper. Shortly afterwards brilliant dribbling from Rosie in midfield created a further chance as Hibs became more adventurous in attack. Lanarkshire United showed why they are league leaders however when they scored with their first attack from an excellent free kick by Lindsay. Hibs continued to press for an equaliser and Charlotte was unlucky not to convert with a header from a corner on the right. It was United however who doubled their lead on the counter attack as Emily scored with a low shot after a great run from halfway. Laura pulled one back for Hibs on 21 minutes when she latched on to a poor kick-out from the keeper. Both teams fought for supremacy in midfield in a high quality game.  Hibs tried vainly to get an equaliser but went in 2-1 down at halftime.

Halftime - Lanarkshire United 2 : Hibs 1

The second half started at the same frenetic pace.  Hibs were immediately on the attack and were awarded a free kick when Rosie was fouled on the right wing.  The ball was flighted over by Coral who found the back of the net. Hibs almost took the lead 5 minutes later when another Coral free kick went just over the bar. Lanarkshire fought back and forced a number of corners.  They kept the Hibs defence on their toes and always looked capable of regaining their lead.  Laura in the Hibs goal was called upon on a number of occasions to clear her lines and did so admirably. Hibs had a number of attacks particularly on the left with the combination of Charlotte, Marielle and Emma making some good runs. Lanarkshire were always quick on the counter attack and would have scored but for a great stop by Laura in the Hibs goal.  Good defending by Charlotte , Rebekah and Gemma at the back with support from Danni and Marielle kept the score level. Hibs mounted further attacks through Gillian, Bryony and Emma but could not break down the United defence. Hibs fell to the sucker punch when Danielle scored with a low shot after a superb counter attack down the right wing.  They went further ahead when Maxine made it 4-2 in the last minute.

Hibs performed very well against the unbeaten league leaders and were unlucky not to have taken any points from an excellent encounter.
