Hibs U 15s 3 : Cumbernauld Cosmos 2

Played at St Augustines, Edinburgh on 14 January 2006

A dry and cloudy Saturday saw Hibs U15 Girls kick-off against Cumbernauld Cosmos.

Hibs were quickly on the attack with some good play from Rebecca in midfield. A great run from Gemma kept up the pressure and Gillian was unlucky not to capitalise on Rosie's through ball.

It was Cosmos who made the breakthrough however following confusion in the Hibs defence that allowed Jodie to convert into an empty net.

Hibs rallied and forced a corner following an excellent through ball from Coral that saw Charlotte 's subsequent shot go just wide.  Dionne in attack and Bryony in midfield looked lively causing the Cosmos defense some problems.

Rosie almost equalised on 25 minutes and this was followed by excellent attempts from Gillian who hit the post and Dionne who narrowly missed with the rebound.

Hibs were in the ascendancy and virtually parked themselves in the Cosmos half of the pitch. Cosmos were nevertheless dangerous on the break and Rebekah and Anja in the Hibs defense had to be on their guard to give goalkeeper Nikki protection.

The Hibs equaliser came from the penalty spot when Coral converted after Dionne had been impeded in the box in what looked like a dubious penalty decision.

The teams went into halftime level at 1-1.

Hibs were quickly back on the attack with Rosie putting Dionne through from the left wing.  Cosmos were quick on the break however and Melia needed to be alert to clear up.

Hibs continued to dominate with Gemma and Charlotte pushing forward. Strong running from Laura S was rewarded when she struck a powerful shot into the roof of the net after great work by Gemma on the left wing to give Hibs a 2-1 lead.

Cosmos seemed to up the pace after they fell behind which made for a very exciting closing period.  They equalised 10 minutes from time when Louise shot high into the net from inside the box.

A final flurry from Hibs produced a winner when Gemma chipped over the keeper from just inside the box.  Hibs kept up the pressure and almost increased their lead before the end of an entertaining contest.
