Hibs Girls U15 1 : Musselburgh Windsor 4

Played at
On a cold and wet Saturday morning Musselburgh Windsor
kicked off against an under strength Hibs side who hadn’t played for four
weeks. Initial play was scrappy but
Musselburgh were first on the attack. Danni
broke down the move with a sliding tackle that gave
Hibs fought back and were unlucky when Laura’s shot
was saved by the keeper following a great run from Rosie on the right wing.
Rebecca and Kirsten were also pushing out of defence to assist the Hibs
attack. They had further chances
with the defender just taking the ball off Rosie when she was about to pull the
trigger.
Gemma had a number of good runs as did Gillian and
Briony although Hibs couldn’t capitalise on their pressure.
It was against the run of play when Musselburgh scored
with an excellent long shot from Danjella. It
looked like Hibs would come straight back when they forced a corner immediately
after the goal but they seemed to lack ideas in the box.
Musselburgh came more into the game after their goal
and only a great tackle from Ashley stopped them from going further ahead.
The Musselburgh pressure eventually paid off when the ball was knocked in
by Shona in a crowded box. They
continued to pressure and went 3 ahead when a corner from the left was allowed
to run across the front of the goal for a simple tap in by Danjella on 25
minutes.
Another brilliant run by Rosie on the left followed by
a deflected shot kept the Hibs attack alive but it was Musselburgh who made the
best chances and they’d have gone further ahead but for a double save by
Claire in the Hibs goal.
Hibs had one more attack involving a great run by
Bryony that forced a corner but again they did nothing with it and went in at
half-time trailing 3-0.
Bryony took over in goal and Claire moved to full back
for the second half. Most of the
play occurred in the middle of the park and Musselburgh seemed happy to contain
the Hibs attack. A through ball from
Rosie found Laura and she was brought down on the left wing.
Coral stepped to take the resultant free kick and scored with a shot that
went high over the keeper into the roof of the net.
Despite some pressure Hibs could not find the net again
and Mussleburgh were still very dangerous in counter attack.
Coral, Ashley and Claire were kept active in the Hibs defence.
There was further good play from Rosie and Gillian ably
supported by Gemma but they couldn’t break down the solid Musselburgh
rearguard.
There was a further blow to Hibs when an injury to
Ashley forced them down to 10 girls. Musselburgh
pressed home their advantage and continued to attack.
Bryony pulled off a great save but could do nothing to stop the fourth
goal from Kim a couple of minutes from time.
In the end a 4-1 defeat was perhaps a little harsh on a rusty Hibs side who seemed to suffer from a lack of match practice. That being said Musselburgh Windsor fully deserved their victory with their hard working and confident performance.
