Hibs Girls travelled to Paisley for the second time in a month for a Scottish Cup preliminary round tie. As in the previous encounter a sticky tight pitch prevented much in the way of free flowing football. Hibs took the lead 12 minutes into the game when Lisa Marie Boyd surrounded by three Paisley players cleverly lobbed the ball over Kate Lagan in the Paisley goal for an exquisite goal. The game continued with the ball bobbing around the midfield until Hibs who had until now been comfortable at the back gave away a corner in the 27th minute. Paisley Saints Tracey Delaney bulleted a header into the Hibs net to make it 1-1. In the second half both teams continued to cancel each other out until a ball was played through the Hibs defence to Paisley Saints forward who was yards off-side. Laura Buchanan gave chase and accidentally clipped the Paisley player. The referee instead of blowing for off-side awarded Paisley with a penalty. Justice was done however when Claire McGregor's spot-kick hit the post and was cleared to safety. Hibs Laurna Robertson then netted from a free-kick only for the referee to insist that it was retaken before Hibs late pressure eventually paid dividends in the 70th minute. Lindsey Hunter got in behind the Paisley defence to the bye-line and cut a ball back across the face of the Paisley goal for Tricia McLaughlin who after some persistence knocked the ball over the line to claim Hibs place in the first round against St Johnstone. |
