SCOTLAND CRASH OUT
Scotland Under 19 women's team crashed out of the UEFA Under 19 tournament in Romania after a devastating 1-0 defeat to Ukraine.

Needing only a draw to go into the next round, the Scots were hit by an early goal as the Ukrainians won a disputed corner and scored from the resulting cross, after 16 minutes. All their efforts to equalise came to nothing, and in fact Ukraine came closest to scoring as they exploited the gaps at the back.
With England winning to top the group on seven points, Ukraine finished second on six points and the Scots go out with a record of one win, one draw and one defeat, giving them four points.

SCOTLAND YOUNG GUNS IN SEVENTH HEAVEN
Head Coach Tony Gervaise was a happy man after his young guns swept aside hosts Romania with a seven goal salvo. The result now leaves the Young Scots side needing to avoid defeat in their third and final group match with the Ukraine on Saturday to qualify for the next group phase.

Ross County striker Sharon Scott (left) led the rout with a well taken hat-trick. The youngster opened Scotland’s account after just three minutes, with Sarah Hough adding their second after fifteen minutes, with a blistering 25 yard drive.

Further efforts from Hollie Thomson, via the penalty spot, and a Jane Somerville header on the stroke of half-time, put the Scots on easy street at the interval.

The second period saw Scotland continue on the offensive and they deservedly added to their tally after 55 minutes, when Diane Barry swept home their fifth. Sharon Scott capped a fine personal performance with a double after 57 & 63 minutes to complete a well taken Hat-trick.

Scotland will now go into their third and final encounter with the Ukraine looking to avoid defeat, and they will take a great deal of confidence from this performance. Scotland 7 Romania 1.

SCOTS RECORD CREDITABLE DRAW AGAINST ENGLAND IN ROMANIA
Scotland U-19 Women opened their UEFA Qualifying campaign in Mogosoaia with a hard fought draw against England. In a match played at a tremendous pace despite the searing heat throughout, Scotland’s young guns turned in a superb opening performance against their more fancied opponents, to claim their opening point of the tournament.

Head Coach Tony Gervaise was understandably upbeat about his young side’s performance, when he commented,” It was an excellent performance from the youngsters, who put together a fine passing game, considering the intense heat throughout, and they were unlucky not to take more from the match”.

A penalty claim was turned down in the first period, while twice in the second half Sharon Scott and Katie Bennett were both foiled only by a last gasp save by the English goalkeeper, after slicing open the English defence, in this the respective side’s first ever meeting at this level in the European championship.

Scotland next face hosts Romania on Thursday evening, before concluding against Ukraine on Saturday. The top two in the group progress to the next round.
